TOYS FOR AGES 1 - 3 MONTHS

Vision changes in the first few months affect which toys are appropriate for young babies. Newborns can see 12 inches in front of them, which means that any toys should be held approximately this distance from their face. Though, their eyes yet be able to focus on objects directly in front of them and instead they see more of their periphery. By one month, they can see objects three feet away.

Young babies are attracted to high contrast black and white patterns. While color vision has not yet developed, babies like to look at objects that are the color red. Babies through age 3 months also like to look at faces.

Types of toys that are good for ages 1 through 3 months include:
